chidori: Lovestruck Kaname. (Lovestruck.)
WHO: Kaname Chidori and Meiya Mitsurugi.
WHAT: Kaname and Meiya head to the apartment remains to collect a few important things.
WHEN: June 18th.
MISSION: ??
WATCH OUT FOR: Angst. :'(

Saturday at the Mitsurugi house. It's a pleasent place to stay, lots of room for yourself, Mana keeps the fridge stocked and Meiya has been making sure Kaname has everything she needs.

Of course it's not actually home, and sooner or later Kaname and Meiya need to leave. Lunch has been served and the girls were called down. It's a traditional japanese meal.. very traditional.

Meiya spoons some rice into her bowl. "Kaname, do you know when you father is arriving?"

"He'll be here tomorrow, actually," Kaname says. "It's kind of weird. The two of us normally don't get along at all, but ever since the attack, he's been really nice."

Like any number of people she's spoken to since then.

Meiya nods a little, and considers "We can't stay in here forever though, eventually we need to go out. Was the apartment under your fathers name or yours?"

"Under my own," Kaname says, spooning rice into her bowl. "My dad helped me pay for it, though." Her part-time work at the cafe was enough to leave Kaname with a little extra spending money, but it wasn't enough to pay rent on her apartment.

Meiya nods a little. "I know it seems really soon, but..." she picks up some slamon off the serving tray. "We should go by there..."

"By my apartment?" Her expression, surprised at first at the suggestion, quickly softens; Kaname looks down at her rice.

"I guess so," she says, finally.

Meiya nods. "You should, eventually. We can take the car." Mana sets out drinks

"The explosion was next door, hmm? Even if it was big, the damage might have been contained mostly to that apartment." the Chinese woman offers.

"There's a lot of things I want to take if they're still there," she says. "A lot of my mom's things were there. And photos, too."

She idly picks at her rice. She can't help but feel a little bad; there were people that had died from the explosion, and all she can think about is her own physical possessions.

Meiya would think thats perfectly normal. "Then lets go after lunch, alright?"

When the car finally turns the corner, Kaname finds herself unable to pull her eyes away from what's left of the building; even as she gazes out at the destruction wrought upon the building a few days before, she can still see everything as it was a week ago.

The car stops in front of the building; police tape surrounds what's left of it, some of it torn in places, flaps of plastic paper waving in the wind. There had been people here a few days before; reporters, police officers, other civilians. They all left their mark behind, footprints decorating the ground, now dusty with soot. Among the footprints is a set of haro prints, which Kaname disregards temporarily as reality finally attempts to set in.

And it's as she steps out that she's filled with a complete numbness; an inability to comperehend what's there before her, knowing what had been there days before. She had imagined that this place would be here forever, and yet now it wasn't. She can't seem to wrap her mind around the reality.

"This is it," she says softly.

Meiya also slides out of the car and shuts the door, looking up at the aparment building, and the blasted hole in the wall that was once CC's apartment, next to Kaname's.

Meiya looks over at Kaname, trying to judge her experssion, numb, unbelieving. She takes hold of Kaname's arm supportively. "Let's go..."

Kaname takes Meiya's hand from where it rests on her arm, gripping it tightly in her hand. The two of them move towards the apartment, pausing to move the tape so the two of them can pass.

Kaname only draws to a halt at the foot of the stairs; these were the same stairs she hid behind during the fight.

"Do you... think it's safe?"

Meiya gives Kaname's hand a squeeze for reassurance "If they were going to condem the building they would have already. It would be borded up." She guides Kaname further ahead. "and someone outside knows where we are."

Kaname bites her lower lip, then takes a step on the stairs; it creaks precariously, and Kaname quickly moves on to the next, until the two of them have finally reached the second floor.

Smoke stains decorate the outside of the building; from the car, she couldn't really see the extent of the damage, but it's plainly visible now. There's a large tear in the building where Cecil's apartment was; whatever wasn't destroyed by fire was clearly destroyed by the blast from the arm slave.

Meiya hurries up the steps with Kaname, then steps to look around. The fire damage is evident in this hallways the most, and the force of the blast has torn out the side of the building. She puts her free hand on Kaname's arm and steps forward, the room is just down the hall.

The door to her apartment appears to be open when they approach; closing her eyes, Kaname stops at the edge of her apartment, inhales, exhales, then steps inside.

At the door, a pair of soot-stained indoor slippers are there to greet her; somehow, she finds the image difficult to bear. Tears sting her eyes, but she somehow pushes herself to keep moving.

The wall separating Cecil and Kaname's apartments is completely caved in; the pictures she had on her wall are completely gone now, burned or torn beyond recognition. Shattered pieces of glass decorate the floor.

The TV's busted; things are knocked over. Just at a glance, she can tell that many of the things will have to be replaced. Whatever wasn't damaged by smoke was damaged by water; whatever wasn't damaged by water was knocked over by the force of the attack.

She moves to her own room, gathering the few things that couldn't easily be replaced: the stuffed Bonta-kun she's had since birth, her mother's kimono, her box of photos.

Meiya's own expression as drops as she sees the state of the apartment. The pictures she never got to ask about, the table they ate dinner at last week, and the place where they studied for that Japanese literature test. All gone.

She walks with Kaname to her room and helps her pick up her things, those worth saving at least.

There areally are no words she can find to say.

The things really worth saving are gathered, and the two make their way to leave; Kaname turns at the door, and takes one final look at the apartment. It's becoming more and more diffcult to remember how things used to look like.

She turns around, and walks across the walkway, pressing her things against her chest tightly.

Meiya puts a hand on Kaname's back as she follows after her. Words fail her still, but maybe words aren't really whats needed here. Her hand moves up and gives Kaname's shoulder a squeeze.

Maybe one day, you'll remember what it looked like.
