WHAT: Kaname and Meiya talk the morning after.
WHEN: June 18th.
MISSION: ??
WATCH OUT FOR: Bananas Girls in pajamas.
The day of the explosion was tense, and hard to come down from for everyone. A lot was revealed, and a lot still remains hidden. One thing was certine though, Meiya was going out of her way to make things better for Kaname.
Meiya's house is large and comfortable, one would say 'opulant'. A rach style house with three large floors and another built part way down the hill the house was built on.
Kaname was given the spare bedroom, the door to which is knocked on "Kaname?" comes Meiya's voice "I brought you a change of clothes..."
Kaname had known that Meiya was wealthy before, when they had seen her beachhouse last summer, but this was the first time it has really sunk in. Silk sheets, large windows, a mansion almost as large as her entire apartment complex--Kaname almost feels like a princess in a place like this.
She's staring out the window when someone knocks at the door; she's only been awake a few minutes now, but she's still trying to wake up. It's probably the low blood pressure.
Kaname pads towards the door, and answers it. "Thanks," she says, accepting the change of clothes; the door is extended slightly. "You want to come in?"
"Sure." Meiya responds and steps inside. "How are you feeling?" she asks. "I hope the room was alright for you?" she's a little nervous, she's never had a friend stay over, and she's been worried that the...wealth of the living here might put people off her.
"Like a princess, really," Kaname says with a small smile. "I've never stayed in a place this fancy before."
She drapes the clothing over the bed, and sits down on the edge of it. "I talked to my father yesterday," she says. "He should be here in a couple of days to help me settle down somewhere else. I'll probably end up moving some place close to Sousuke's apartment." Near her old one.
Meiya returns Kaname's smile with one of her own. "Good." she folds her hands infront of herself. "Are you going to be alright?"
"I don't know," Kaname says, and it's an honest answer. "I guess so." But right now, she isn't, though she's trying to be. She'll have to pick herself up off her feet and go back to school at some point.
Meiya nods slightly. It's hard to know what to say, "Kaname... I, don't know what exactly I can do, but if you need anything."
"There really isn't anything you /can/ do that you haven't done already," Kaname says appreciatively. She's already done more than most people would have.
Meiya nods again. "Okay, well..." she pauses, then moves to give her friend a hug. This isn't something she normally does, with anyone.
And Kaname returns it. "Thanks, Meiya," she says, once their grasp around each other is finally relinquished.
"You know, it's pretty weird," she says. "If you would have asked me a just a year and a half ago what I'd be doing today, I don't think I would have guessed something like /this/."
Meiya smiles a little again as they pull apart. "I think, I can say the same for myself. A year and a half ago, I was living in a whole different world."
Meiya brushes some hair out of her face "Kaname... you told me what you are... I should tell you the truth too, but I don't want to lay too much on you at once."
If Meiya would bring it up, even knowing the circumstances, it's got to be important. Kaname doesn't need newtype abilities to know that much.
"What's wrong?" she asks, leaning slightly forward, as she turns her head to look at Meiya.
Meiya looks back at Kaname, and fidgets with her hands. "I wasn't fighting Beast Men in Siberia..." she purses her lips.
"Aliens. Aliens arrived with Second Impact."
Kaname's brows furrow with worry.
"You mean... the zentradi?"
Meiya shakes her head. "These are different. They can't talk, they don't even use weapons really they just..." Meiya takes a deep breath "Eat."
"They eat everything in sight, we called them BETA. We destroyed their hive - I wasn't really in that battle - but when we did, thats when we made contact with the rest of the world."
"They eat everything?" she asks; there's a hint of incredulity in her voice. The whole idea of eating aliens somehow diverges from her initial vision of aliens adopted from movie and television.
"They just keep consuming and consuming." Meiya shakes her head "They..../were/ some kind of weapon. We honestly don't know much about them. Where they came from, why they act this way. We just know that wherever they went, anything living, or once living, is eaten."
Kaname bites her lower lip. "So, what did you guys do?"
"Fought them. Bitterly sometimes, until we found their hive." Meiya takes a deep breath and closes her eyes "We filled the underground hive with gas, and ignited it. Now theres a 15 kilometer wide crater in Siberia."
"MY old unit is still there. The U.N. Gaurdsmen, patrolling for any more signs of them, but it's been quiet for nearly a year now."
Kaname is overcome with a sense of apprehension; if she didn't know about the BETA, what else out there doesn't she know about?
Maybe ignorance really /was/ bliss.
"Why didn't they tell anyone about it?"
"I honestly don't know." Meiya sighs. "Maybe they thought there was no more threat, so why burden people?"
Meiya hangs her head. "Forgive me."
Kaname holds her hands up in an act of surrender. "No, no, it's /fine/," she insists. "I was just wondering, that's all."
She looks up at the ceiling, her lips tugged into an expression not quite neutral, but not quite a frown, either. "It seems strange," she says. "I thought that compared to most /normal/ people, I knew a lot more about the strange things going on in this world."
"Funny..." Meiya looks up "I used to think the same." she smiles a little.
Kaname smiles, too.
"Well, I guess there's a lot that neither of us knows about," she says. "The few things that I do know, I'm not sure that I understand them completely." The Orb Union, or Mythril for instance.
"Me neither." Meiya sighs. "I should let you get changed, Mana has breakfast downstairs."
